Vitamin D deficiency is now recognized as a pandemic . The major cause of vitamin D deficiency is the lack of appreciation that sun exposure in moderation is the major source of vitamin D for most humans. Very few foods naturally contain vitamin D, and foods that are fortified with vitamin D are often inadequate to satisfy either a child's or an adult's vitamin D requirement. Vitamin D deficiency causes rickets in children and will precipitate and exacerbate Osteopenia, osteoporosis, and fractures in adults. The older the child, the blacker the child, the more TV and video games, the fatter the child, the higher the chance the child is deficient. Tragically, 59% of black teenage girls had levels less than 15 ng/ml. Children with low levels were more likely to have abnormal blood lipids, high blood pressure, obesity, and abnormally elevate parathyroid hormone levels, all risks for future cardiovascular disease. Only 4% of American children take recommended doses of Vitamin D supplements, surely a failure of U.S. pediatricians. " Note This is beyond pathetic how can the CDC remain silent? The association of the increased incidence of arthritis of most types, diabetes of both types, and MANY other diseases and increasing latitudes, the classic vitamin D association, demonstrates to me that MANY diseases have a strong Sunshine component. Black and dark skinned people will have a problem acquiring vitamin D from the sun if you live too far north or south of the equator. Your dark skin filters out too much sun and is designed for a very bright nearly overhead sun shining most of the year. In a recent test only 8% of African-Americans had sufficient levels of vitamin D and almost NONE had optimal levels . Many in the health field believe this very low level of vitamin D in African-Americans may account for a part of their lower life expectancy.

IMO this extremely low level of vitamin D may explain why African-Americans and Hispanics have a vastly higher risk for AIDS. Vitamin D Levels in Four Populations of Dark Skinned People

It is very possible your RA problems may be cured or greatly helped by getting your vitamin D levels up to say 85 ng/ml. This is NOT hard to do IMO use the sun if possible and UVB tanning beds or vitamin D3 capsules otherwise.

With ANY serious health problem IMO you MUST get your vitamin D levels up to at least 85 ng/ml. This is a MUST.
